Thin Wall Bearings vs. Heavy Wall Bearings
Our thin and heavy wall bearings are made for different applications. Despite the differences between them, keep in mind that all of our bearings are made from 100% Babbitt metal!
- Thin Wall Bearings: (Thickness of up to .187)
- Also known as plain bearings or sleeve bearings, thin wall bearings are useful in numerous applications, as they can be used individually or combined into a load carrying system.
- Thin wall bearings are engineered to be lightweight, making them suitable for applications where weight reduction is crucial, such as aeronautics, automobiles, and even go-karts!
- Thin wall bearings usually intended for use in main bearings and connecting rod bearings, in compressors, pumps, and turbines.
- We create thin main bearings, connecting rod bearings, compressor bearings, pump bearings, sleeve bearings, and turbine bearings.
- Heavy Wall Bearings: (Thickness ranging from .175 to 1 inch or greater)
- Heavy wall bearings are similar in structure and application to thin wall bearings, but with walls greater than .175 inch thick.
- Heavy wall bearings are usually found in heavy duty pumps and turbines which turn slower RPMs, but produce more force than their thinner counterparts.
- Because of their power, heavy bearings can be used to transfer material or be used as connecting rods or main bearings around a crankshaft to force pistons to pump material.
